Providing aid where and when needed
Ensuring the provision of supplies and facilities to those in dire need presents numerous challenges, whether arising from natural disasters, conflict, or weakened market structures. Our collaborative efforts with governments, NGOs, and businesses aim to overcome these challenges, facilitating the delivery of essential goods and services. This encompasses a broad spectrum, from distributing health and pharmaceutical products to providing emergency housing and life-saving equipment. The battle against HIV/AIDS stands out as a significant triumph in public health. Remarkable strides have been taken in over the past two decades.
The DLT Supply Chain
Scenario-wise improvement
In the first scenario, we assumed production takes place in India, shipped from Mumbai to the RDC in Dubai, and finally shipped to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to the CMS. From the CMS it is then finally delivered to the local RMS facility. A second scenario, we modelled production still located in India, shipped from Mumbai to the RDC in Dubai, and finally shipped to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In this scenario we introduced a cross-docking location in Mumbai that consolidates shipments for the RDC in Dubai and even for the CMS in Dar es Salaam. We changed the delivery frequency from replenishment every 5 months to shipment every 2 months or every month. A third scenario the RDC is no longer used for intermediate storage. The shipments are sent directly to the CMS in Tanzania. Production is located in India, shipped from Mumbai directly to the Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to the CMS. We change the delivery frequency from replenishment every 5 months to shipment every 2 months or every month. The demand remains the same, we only alter the delivery frequency. Our fourth scenario is a combined scenario in which we assume an upstream cross-dock facility in Mumbai, Vendor Managed Inventory done by the suppliers and an increased delivery frequency.
Key take away
In this project we used a set of supply chain network models to simulate the different scenario’s and simulate the performance and lead-times: Simulation module of our Spanning Tree platform, Multi-echelon inventory optimization and costs database.
